Isolated power supply, Photovoltaic installations for isolated electrification with batteriesWith this installation, we are once again focusing on the type of installations that gave rise to Electricidad Soma more than 60 years ago: off-grid installations. It’s true that in the 1960s, it wasn’t common to use photovoltaic or renewable energy systems of any kind for these installations. So, how was it done? Well, with what was available: generator sets, often made from old combine harvester engines and alternators that were anything but easy to find, assemble, and adjust—quite a feat, which we successfully overcame back then.
Over time, we incorporated battery systems, with inverters/chargers that were more unreliable than a carnival shooting gallery, but despite everything, it was a milestone that paved the way for the fabulous diversity of products we have today for generating, storing, and distributing electricity in remote areas, isolated from the electrical grid.
The next step was the incorporation of renewable energy production systems, mainly photovoltaic, which represented a fundamental advance in terms of the efficiency and reliability of these off-grid installations. Of course, even today, the element that guarantees a continuous electricity supply, whatever the weather, is the generator set, which operates fully automatically, both for charging the batteries and for supplying power to the installation, thus ensuring that even in adverse weather conditions, we will not have any problems with the electricity supply.

In this off-grid facility, we have taken another step forward, using state-of-the-art equipment with repurposed batteries from the automotive sector. With this, we want to contribute clearly and decisively to what is now called the circular economy, making the most of all resources and giving a second chance to equipment and components that would otherwise have been discarded, generating more waste and pollution to the environment.

- 4 recycled 15 kW lithium batteries
- 2 Three-phase 15 kW inverters/chargers
- 43 solar panels of 580 Wp
