SOLAR SELF-CONSUMPTION INSTALLATION WITH STORAGE USING LITHIUM BATTERIES
Some time ago, few people considered installing a self-consumption system with batteries; batteries were very expensive, and electricity wasn’t so costly, so it was a difficult investment to recoup and seemed to have no clear purpose. With the infamous power outage of April 28, 2025, things began to look different, as many people with solar panels at home were left without power. Without batteries, the system stops working due to energy security issues on the grid. And many who did have batteries were also left without power because they didn’t have an inverter with an emergency backup system, which guarantees a continuous, uninterrupted supply until the grid is restored—that is, as long as the battery lasts. If you run the numbers to calculate the return on investment and payback period for photovoltaic solar self-consumption systems with lithium batteries, I can now say that they add up. The lifespan of lithium batteries is between 6,500 and 8,000 charge cycles, requiring no maintenance or intervention, and offering very high reliability. Previous lead-acid, gel, or AGM batteries have a lifespan three times shorter than lithium batteries, and many of them require maintenance.
