This is one of the first large off-grid solar installations we built about 18 years ago, and at the time it was the largest in the country. Now it’s due for an upgrade, which includes increasing the solar capacity, as well as a general overhaul and replacing components that are obsolete or worn out due to age and the high volume of use the installation has seen. It’s a large pig farm, and we’ve increased the installed photovoltaic capacity from 150 kW to 200 kW by adding more solar panels to expand the total array and installing a new 50 kW grid-tie inverter.
This isolated photovoltaic solar power supply installation has basically operated from solar power, with the support of two 300 kVA generator sets, which have acted at times when the weather did not facilitate solar charging or at times of high consumption of the plant, when they acted occasionally to reinforce the photovoltaic solar power supply as an increase in power.
We are certainly very pleased with the results of this off-grid industrial photovoltaic solar power installation, as most of the equipment is still operational 18 years after its initial installation. The panels, of course, maintain an efficiency of 85% of their original output. The inverters, from a reputable CE-marked manufacturer, have proven to be of exceptional quality and reliability, deserving of our utmost respect and admiration. It is true that the original batteries were OPzS lead-acid batteries, as lithium was not commonly used at that time due to its high cost and the lack of a reliable system of this technology. These batteries were replaced after 11 years of operation with industrial lithium batteries, and since then, the installation has functioned perfectly, providing the owner with significant savings over the years.
